AGREEMENT OF CULTURAL AND SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION BETWEEN THE UNIVERISTY OF MODENA (ITALY) AND THE UNIVERSITY OF TURKU (FINLAND)

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy) represented by the Rector, Prof. Gian Carlo Pellacani, officially authorised by the Administrative Board of the University, located in Modena, Via Universitą, 4, and the University of Turku (Finland), represented by the Rector, Prof. Keijo Virtanen in consideration of:

the interest of both universities in the development of scientific research and education of scholars and technical staff, and

common scientific programmes;

agree upon a cooperation programme which is regulated by the following clauses.

Article 1. – OBJECTIVE OF THE COOPERATION PROGRAMMME

Both parties participate in developing common projects of research and common study activities, and in sharing the experience in using scientific instrumentation of common interest.

Article 2. SUBJECTS OF THE COOPERATION PROGRAMME

In order to reach the goal of the cooperation agreement exposed in Article 1, the University of Turku (Finland) and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia agree to define, by protocols added to this purpose, the aims of common interest, to be pursued during the period of the validity of the present agreement. Every added protocol should specify:

the specific goal of the cooperation;

the way of cooperation in order to reach it;

forms and periods of times to reach it;

the way of dividing possible funds devoted to the scope.

As regards the development of common objectives, indicated in Article 1, it will be pursued by:

developing common projects of research;

exchanging researchers and technical staff;

exchanging documentation and scientific reports;

organising scientific congresses, seminars, meetings planned by the two parties together.

Article 3. EXCHANGE OF PERSONNEL AND CONNECTED DUTIES.

As regards the expenses for pursuing common goals, and with respect to Article 2, this agreement does not result in any financial obligations for either party. In those cases in which financial support to the common projects is available, the parties will define the way how to use it. Specific financial support can be given to personnel that will have teaching duties under applicable rules of either party.

Article 4. COLLABORATION OF PUBLIC NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.

The parties will promote the collaboration of public national and international institutions, including those specifically devoted to research, of private firms, associations, foundations, etc., in order to look for best success in reaching the objectives of the present agreement.

Article 5. AUTHORS’ RIGHTS

The rights of the Authors and, in general, the rights connected with the intellectual property, arising in the frame of the present agreement, will be property of both parties. In the published scientific articles the present common programme will be acknowledged. Both parties will be owners, to an extent separately agreed upon in each case, of possible economic incomes deriving from results obtained in the frame of the present agreement.

Article 6. DURATION AND EXECUTION

The present protocol will be valid beginning with the time of approval, for a period of twelve months, and will be renewed every year by tacit understanding, until termination by either party by official and explicit communication to the other party, at least two months in advance.

The present agreement is written and signed in two original copies in Italian and two in English .
